Frontenac Park: The Mammals

Someone forgot to tell this baby Raccoon that he is nocturnal

Of course there was a large array of Chipmunks, Gray Squirrels, and Red Squirrels. No other mammals, not a single deer.

Lots of Deer at the Point

There is something about the snow and the bare branches and the grey skies that make the animals less nervous. I was able to walk up quite close to the Barred Owl and to these deer. They never did run off, even when I came near and after I turned and walked away. I had no need of a spotting scope today. All that was required was that I walk slowly, pausing regularly to let them get used to me.

The birds were not very cooperative but this Red Squirrel absolutely insisted on being photographed. When coming out onto the board walk didn't get my attention he climbed the tree beside me and set up a tremendous racket.
