Giant Puffball

Calvatia gigantea

Everyone else was afraid I would poison them but I had a great meal of Puffball steak!

Hey... I used to collect these as a kid with my grandfather in Southwestern Ontario - but I can't remember what time of year you can find them (or is it anytime of year?)

could you give me some insight?

Hi sar:

Thanks for visiting. They are an early fall mushroom. I collected these towards the end of September. There were quite a few in the same area.

My Grandfather use to get them out of the woods all the time when I was little. I love it. They would always be so big.
